13 Perks Of Dating An Older Guy
Alison Ervin

Cheers to the girls out there in dating an older man. Here is a list of the perks we have:

1. Maturity.

Let's face it. At 21, most guys aren't thinking about settling down and having a family. They're thinking about going to the bar, flirting with a girl, and hooking up. Studies have shown that girls are typically more mature than guys their own age. We need someone at the same level as us maturity-wise and an older man is just that.

2. Sex.

After time to perfect their technique, these men know how to make a woman feel good. They've had experience with women before you and have figured out what a woman does and does not like. They know how to please you and get pleasure, too. They listen to their partner. Time, patience, and knowledge work wonders. It will be like making love every time, not just casual sex.

3. Security.

At this point in their life, a man knows who he is. They most likely have a secure job and know what they are doing in life, for the most part. He is established. You'll feel safe and protected with this man.

4. Chivalry.

Men know how to be a gentleman. Boys do not. From the first unofficial date to now, I have always had my door opened for me, my chair pushed in, my food ordered for, and my coat taken on and off. Even when he has suggested I bring a jacket and I don't, he gives me his. Even when I just stumbled out of bed at noon, I am complimented sincerely. He says please and thank you and is never rude. He even asked my father's permission to date me.

5. Money.

Money isn't everything, but who are you kidding when you say you don't need money? You need money to survive and it's nice when a man is financially secure. It's nice when you both can work a normal amount of hours and have time to spend together in the evenings, rather than pulling overnight shifts and second or third jobs. By this time, he's learned how to make and save money.

6. Experience.

They know what they want (or should) so there are no head games or texting games to be played. He knows what he wants and if you're not it, he won't waste yours or his time. If he wants to talk to you, he will text or call you. There's no waiting for x amount of dates after a date to contact the other person after a date.

7. Patience.

It's not always fun to hear he's "been there done that," but it helps when it comes to understanding. He's emotionally stable and will understand that you won't always be, especially during your time of the month and because of your age.

8. Respect.

He won't try to change you. He will like and accept you for who you are. He will treat you how you deserve to be treated. He will respect your wishes.

9. Perspective.

Because he is older than you, he's been where you're at and can relate to what you are going through. When you have a problem, he is there to help you with some insight from personal experience. He will understand you're young and are still figuring things out.

10. Commitment.

There will be no waiting four years until after college and another four years to get a career established to commit. If he's serious, he's serious. When it is the right time, you will say I love you. You will move in together. You will get engaged. You will get married. You will have children.

11. Jealousy.

An older man is confident with himself and trusts you. Just because someone is flirting with you, doesn't mean he will be insecure and begin worrying whether you will leave him or not. An older man knows what you chose him and why you are going to stay with him. He knows there's no reason to be jealous of your other guy friends. They are just friends.

12. Humor.

He won't make inappropriate jokes that will cause a fight or throw lousy pickup lines at you. He will know when to be serious and when to have fun. He will be far past even thinking about joking that he likes you.

13. Intelligence.

If you want someone to have a deep conversation with, you found your man. Typically, older gentlemen can carry on great intellectual conversations. It all boils down to experience. He's most likely more well-read than a college boy who plays video games all day. Older and wiser is better.

If you're worried about judgment and you really do love each other for the right reasons, most people will eventually accept your relationship and if they don't, you don't need those people in your life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
