Breaking up with someone is never easy. Sometimes it makes you feel free, and sometimes it can bring you down. If a relationship is not meant to be, it will end in due time. However, this does not mean that it will end without a few regrets or wishing things could have been done differently.

I have been on both sides of the breakup, both the one that did the breaking and the one that was broken up with. The aftermath is not always fun, and it may take time to truly move on. Other times, it is the biggest relief. Every person heals from a breakup differently, no matter what side they were on.

Getting over a relationship, even if you are the one that ended things, can be difficult. Every relationship is unique and so are the breakups.

So, grab some hot chocolate or a glass of wine (if you are of age, of course), cue the Adele music, and read some of the ways these millennial women broke up with their exes.

1. Age 20, Ended after 2+ years together

"We were long distance, and when the arguments got to be unbearable, we ended up breaking up over the phone. It was the worst experience of my life, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Not seeing him in person when we were ending a two-plus year relationship was awful, and ever since then I've regretted breaking up with him that way."

2. Age 21, Ended after he cheated

"My, now ex, boyfriend cheated on me with his next door neighbor. I had met her, played with her child, and been inside her home. She knew who I was. I called him with two of my friends with me, broke up with him over the phone, and threw a party to celebrate a week later. It was awesome."

3. Age 21, Ended it through text

"It was the summer after sophomore year of high school, and I ignored him the entire day before and then texted him saying we needed to break up."

4. Age 20, Ended it twice... just to be sure

"When I was in high school I broke up with the same boy twice. The first was over the phone and the second time my mom drove me to Starbucks then she waited at the nearby Subway while I did the deed and drove me home. While I was breaking up with my boyfriend my mom was talking about my breakup with a neighbor in the Subway, lol."

5. Age 20, Ended it clean and easy

6. Age 22, Ended it over text AFTER he cheated

"[We broke up] over a text message. It was four days after a big fight, and he thought that I would just get over the issue (him cheating), but then couldn't understand why I wanted to break up."

7. Age 20, Ended it through a letter, yes snail mail

"I broke up with my ex-girlfriend the day I left for college. I wrote her a love letter explaining everything and how much she meant to me. The first day of school, she wrote me back, wishing me the best life and her love. I still have the letter and I still remember her fondly."

8. Age 19, Ended it through the phone due to long distance

"Over the phone, we were long distance."

9. Age 21, Ended it by having him figure it out

"I knew for a few months that I was going to have to break up with him, but we were long distance so I knew I wanted to wait and do it in person. He visited me (six-ish hours away) over a weekend for a sorority function at my college. At that point, I already knew I was planning on breaking up with him the next weekend. In hindsight, I should've just done it then, but I wanted to make one more positive memory/weekend visit. I went home for Thanksgiving the next weekend. I went over to his house to hang out. As soon as we got to his room I was acting really weird. He kept asking me and bugging me about it, and eventually, he said, 'are you breaking up with me?'"

10. Age 19, Ended it via BFF

"I asked my best friend to call him."

11. Age 20, Ended it after some spilled beer

"He poured a beer on me on Halloween and that was the last straw so I told him it was over and went and met up with my other friends. Held my ground after I had sobered up too! Proud of me."
