One of the most debated questions that women are asked is: can a woman have a career and children? Mostly we hear old generation say no or why should women have careers, thats why they have husbands, but I wanted to know what my generation thought about this touchy subject. This is what they had to say, unanimously. Here are their thoughts on the subject and this is what they said:

1. 19-year-old woman, employed

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"YES!!! I could not be a stronger proponent to this. As a woman, I aspire to have a successful career while simultaneously raising a wonderful family.

It is POSSIBLE! Balance is key."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"Because women are badasses.... we can do anything. Socially women are always held to higher standards than men. Politically, it’s frowned upon. But it should be empowering and celebrated."

2. 23-year-old woman. She has three jobs.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes. Times have changed, and it’s so weird to me people think this isn’t possible."

"My mom had both, and she did one hell of a job."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"I think the only reason people believe women can’t have both is because they’re stuck in the past where that was the traditional thing going on. That’s not how it is anymore. Yes, maybe some women want to focus on solely being stay at home parents- THATS GREAT FOR THEM! Honestly it is.. but for me, I want something different, and the only reason I think it’ll be remotely frowned upon that i focus my attention on both my children and my job is because of the people still stuck in the traditional time period."

3. 18 year old woman. Full time student and waitress.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

Simple and to the point answer! "Yes!!!"

4. 21 year old woman. Has a job.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes. In life, everything is about balance...

and having a career with children shouldn't be exempt."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"Women can do anything and to be told you can't have a career and children is debilitating and toxic. I don't think any factors should force a woman to decide between a kid and a career. It should be up to the woman and the man who she wants to have a child with. Factors outside of the woman's wellbeing are trivial and constraining and we need to stop telling females when the right time is for them to decide what they want to do with their lives."

5. 21 year old woman. Has a job.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Absolutely, a woman is capable of doing anything with hard work and time management. The 1980’s phenoenna of “Super Mom” so realistic."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"Women can have both due to social support from others and excellent adapting skills."

6. 17 year old woman. No job.

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"Not enough time, depending on said career."

7. 20 year old woman. Full time student with two jobs.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes!

This is not the 1950’s anymore.

Just because she has a kid, does not mean her dreams and aspirations stop. It’s hard to do both but if you’re willing to put in the effort, it’s totally doable. You can definitely have both, who says you need to chose one or the other?"

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"Just because she has kids should not stop her from doing what makes her happy. If she wants kids and still wants a career, you can make it happen! Maybe have your husband watch the kids at this time of the day and you watch them at another point or get them a nanny or put them in day care. You can do both!"

8. 20 year old woman. Has a job.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Of course.

Can I be in organizations even though I attend college? Can I maintain a healthy relationship with my boyfriend while attending college? Yes and yes.

Women can multitask. People can multitask. We aren't limited to just one passion or one hobby. It will probably be difficult to juggle both a career and children, but I am confident that women can do it."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"If a woman feels like she can't have both, maybe she still feels influenced by gender norms. However, I think that throughout the years, gender constructs and norms are really being broken down. A woman can be the breadwinner. A man can stay home with the kids."

9. 19 year old woman. Certified Nurse Assistant.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes. For starters, it's been proven to be possible for decades now. There are successful women who are surgeons, doctors, lawyers, etc and have beautiful families. It takes a lot to be able to balance both a successful career and a wonderful family, but it's possible and has been for years upon years."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"I believe it's an issue with society.

A lot of people are under the impression that a woman cannot have both a good career and a happy family at the same time. I think people believe that because of how women are viewed in today's society. Of course, people think women are much lesser than men, but that's a whole other topic. Truthfully, I just think people are under the impression that a woman 'can't have it all.'"

10. 19 year old woman. Has a job.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes. It's just about balance and having a support system."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"If your kid is sick, someone needs to stay home and watch him/ her, raise them when they're little and can't go to school."

11. 20 year old woman. Has a job.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"I believe it is possible, yes. Because women are capable of being a responsible mother as well as career woman.

However, I will admit that to have a career and raising a family is tough, especially for a single mom. It all depends on the woman’s education level."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"...but factors include: Relationship status (married versus unmarried) Education (college educated versus high school) Upbringing/Class (grow up rich or poor) Location (city versus rural)."

12. 22 year old female. Has two jobs.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes. Everybody chooses a different way to parent and allowing peoples thoughts and opinions to get in the way of their dreams is absurd. Having children doesn't limit what you are capable of doing at all, it may limit your time, but it's called time management for a reason."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"If men can have children and work, so can women.

Growing up I had a mom who traveled a lot for work so my dad took care of my sister and I.

He learned to do our hair, paint our nails (he even let us paint his nails), and there was ALWAYS a hot meal on the table at the end of the day. Your gender doesn't define your life roles. Society would NEVER dream of telling a single father that he needed to get a woman in his life to take care of his child so why should society say that a single mother needs to find a man to take care of them? I am all about a man wanting to spoil his woman, but telling a woman no is like telling a toddler that they have to go down for a nap. It will not work out well."

13. 23 year old woman. Has a job.

Can a woman have a career and children? If so, why? If not, why?

"Yes, because women are smart, invetive, reactive, diligent, and successful and can make enough income to support heir own family, if that is what they want."

Why do you feel women can or cannot have both? What are the social, political, etc. factors?

"Because the stereotype of women being weak is total BS. Women are strong and can carry a lot of weight. Such as a career and kids. Socially, women are taught not to. Stay at home with the kids, but we all know that has changed. Politically, women are told their opinion and what to do, one again. But we’re also changing that."

I think these ladies said it all! Women CAN have kids and a career.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

191423

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
