I Asked College Women What They Actually LIKE About Having Their Period

...and they actually had positive answers.

You might be thinking to yourself, "What the heck could a girl actually like about getting her period? There's uncontrollable hormones & mood swings, painful menstrual cramps, countless dollars spent on pads, tampons & new underwear–what part of that is good/fun?"

I was right there with you, thinking the bad outweighed the good...the good that didn't seem to even be in sight or exist at all.

So I decided to explore this question. Cuz nothing could be 100% bad, right?

I asked a ton of my female friends their thoughts, and here's what they said:

Some women just straight up don't like it...

"Nothing."

"I have an IUD so I don't get my period anymore...which is ideal."

"Birth control–birth control is what I like about my period."

"The feeling when I’m finally done so that I know that I don't have to deal with it for another 3-5 weeks."

Although some women see it as a sign that protection works...

"I know/Knowing I'm not pregnant." **repeated MANY times**

Some see it as a blessing from the food gods...

"I have the urge to eat a lot more ice cream."

"You get to eat a lot of junk food and no one can judge you."

"Gives me an excuse to eat like a vacuum."

Some take it as confirmation of their humanity...

"I know my body’s functioning at least mostly properly if I’m getting it, haha."

“Having my period tells me my body is doing alright: my cycles are on time and my ovaries are alive and well. I take it as a sign of good health.”

"Witnessing the amazing female reproductive system. Like it’s flushing itself out to prepare for the next egg/potential human, which is pretty cool."

Some like to use it as a reason to vegetate...

"A valid reason to lounge around because you’re feeling bloated/in pain."

Some can really notice its benefits & its ~benefits~...

"I'm more tired so I fall asleep more easily and sleep better."

"I have a higher sex drive on my period."

Some just find it humorous...

"I think it's funny how it freaks guys out. Like just talking about it makes guys uncomfortable & that's humbling for them."

No matter how you feel about your periods, though, they are a fact of life, indeed. And when you're bawling over how cruel the world is for making you go through such a gruesome process, at least you can take comfort in the the fact that you are not alone in this endeavor.

Keep doin' you.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
