My Boyfriend and i are sober, but that doesn't make us killjoys

So please, don't judge us for not drinking and we won't judge you for drinking.

Truth: I don't like drinking.

Truth: I don't drink and neither does my boyfriend.

Truth: I have no problems with others drinking.

Lie: My boyfriend and I are killjoys for not drinking.

Honestly, I don't know where the myth of being sober equals being boring came from but It's annoying. I've written about why I don't drink before and I won't go into it here but if you're curious like me just follow the link.

My reasons for not drinking don't affect my view of others drinking but other drinking affects their view of my not drinking. Confusing, right?

People always judge us for not getting really drunk or try to pressure us into drinking.

When we refuse or politely say no, people get more aggressive in their pressure.

They begin to call us "killjoys" or tell us to "live a little."

My boyfriend has his own reasons for not drinking but being male there are a lot more societal pressures on him to drink. Drinking and men somehow have been mistaken to correlate to masculinity.

We live a sober life together and we are happy that way. We don't need to drink to be fun.

I'm fun and a little crazy without alcohol. So I don't need it to have a good time. You wouldn't want me to drink because I am sure I'd be more annoying than usual.

When my boyfriend and I go out, people ask us why we aren't drinking all the time.

We smile at each other, knowing each other's personal reasons for not doing so, and we just shrug. We don't care what others think because we are comfortable and happy with our decisions not to drink.

We don't judge those who do drink.

We don't have a "lesser" life for not drinking.

I don't need to be drunk "just once" for life experience. My boyfriend has been drunk before and he says he never wants to be again.

We are happy as a sober couple.

So please, don't judge us for not drinking and we won't judge you for drinking.

Truth: We'd rather drink soda, or in my case tea than alcohol.

Truth: We are fun to be around, even if we are a sober couple.

Truth: We are happier being a sober couple.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
