For The Safety Of Your Love Life, Here Is Each And Every Reason You Should Date A Fireman

Men and women have dozens of reasons they decide to go through the hours of training and practice to become a firefighter.

When I asked my boyfriend why he decided to be one he talked about how he wanted to be something bigger than himself and give back to the community he loves.

He is truly the most generous person I know and he brings me joy each day to be a fireman's girlfriend.

1. They have the sweetest souls

It takes a person with a huge heart to willingly take a position where they risk their lives in order to save others. My boyfriend inspires me each day to be a kinder and more generous person. Who wouldn't want to date somebody that brings out the best in you?

2. They will cherish the time they get to spend with you

One thing you'll learn as you date a firefighter is that their schedule can be crazy. When I first started dating my boyfriend he had training for four hours each Tuesday and Thursday night and full day training every other weekend. Looking back the business of his schedule just made our time spent together that much more special.

3. They are excellent communicators

In the fire world, as I like to call it, communication is key. Whether the firefighters are on medical or fire calls they are always talking to each other to make sure everybody is on the same page. They are there for one another and are always ready to listen.

4. You get to hang out at their station and see tons of cool equipment

I still get beyond excited whenever I get to visit the station he lives in. Between all the engines, trucks, and other gear that I wish I had the names for, you will never run out of new things to look at and attempt to learn about. You'll never be too old to get excited to look around a fire truck either, I can guarantee it.

5. You will learn more about firefighting than you ever thought you needed to know

Did you know that all the different color fire hydrants have different water pressure levels? Or that each call is given a name on a scale of Alpha to Echo based on the severity? I've gotten to hear countless random fun facts about fire fighting and l love seeing how excited and into it my boyfriend gets when he gets to share his knowledge.

6. They'll have plenty of station shirts to steal if you're sneaky enough

Ah yes, this one might just be my personal favorite. I absolutely love getting to wear my "recruit" shirt my boyfriend gave me and show my support for his station. Not to mention they are so comfortable!

7. They will truly be your rock to lean on

I am truly lucky to know that my boyfriend will have my back through thick and thin, just like he would for anybody at his station. He is both strong and sensitive all in one to make the perfect combination. He is the bravest person I know and I thank my lucky stars everyday that I get to call this handsome fireman mine.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
