Dating has changed drastically over the years. Long ago, were the days when a guy planned dates for girls and picked them up from their homes. Instead, we order take out and partake of the “Netflix and chill” date.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with staying home some nights. But once in a while girls appreciate going on a “real date” outside of the house. These dates don’t have to be extravagant or require weeks of planning. It’s just fun to go out and spend time together.

1. Drive-in movie

If there is a drive-in movie site near you, try it out one night. This is a fun alternative to the old standby movie theater date.

2. Picnic at the park

Break up the pattern of going out to eat and try packing a meal. Picnics are fun and cheap. After you eat, you can take a walk around the park.

3. Dancing

This does not mean go hit up some clubs and “get down.” This is actual dancing. Even if you’re both terrible at it, enjoy being terrible at something together. (You can always take dance lessons together too.)

4. Go to a concert

If you both have common taste in music, why not go to a concert? This is also a great way to introduce each other to different types of music.

5. Wine Tasting

This may seem boring, but who doesn’t want to try different types of wine for fun? Enjoy feeling like “adults” and go wine tasting.

6. Hiking

This is a great way to get some fresh air and relax. It is also a date that requires no expense.

7. Skating

You are never too old to go roller skating or ice skating. This can be done year-round.

8. Go get ice cream

Instead of doing the typical dinner date, go get ice cream at any time. Dinner dates can often be too formal. Ice cream dates can be fun and casual.

9. Visit a museum

Most museums have opportunities to go when admission is free.

10. Take a cooking class

Learning a new skill together can be fun. This way you will be able to cook for each other too.

11. Fishing

Not a fan of the outdoors? Fishing is a simple outdoor activity that doesn’t require you spending the night in a tent.

12. Go to a music festival

For the music lovers, try going to a festival. This is multiple concerts for one price.

13. Visit an amusement park

Embrace your inner kid and visit an amusement park. The Ferris Wheel is a park classic, and who doesn’t love it? (Unless you’re afraid of heights.)

14. Go to an aquarium

Try visiting aquariums when there are special offers on admission prices.

15. Take a day trip

Be spontaneous and take a day trip together. This doesn’t require planning or packing because you don’t have to stay overnight. Travel to a nearby city you’ve never been to or somewhere you’ve always wanted to go back to.

16. Bike riding

This requires no cost and no planning. No need to get dressed up for this date.

17. Go to the zoo

Try visiting the zoo during the week when it isn’t packed.

18. Canoeing or rafting

Try getting out on the water and spending time together.

19. Go see a show

Go to a local high school or university’s production. These are often done on the weekends and is a great way to support a school.

20. Try visiting a farmer's market

Farmer’s markets are great places to shop or simply stroll around. You can try foods at no cost.

21. Riding go-karts

Feeling a little competitive? Riding go-karts calls for some friendly competition.

22. Mini golf

Mini golf is great for everyone even if you are terrible at golf.

23. Bowling

Looking for an indoor activity? Rain or shine, bowling is perfect.

24. Attend a sports game

Try attending a local high school or university’s sports game. Admission is usually cheap for high school football games.

25. Paintball

If you’re looking for a group date, paintball is a great opportunity to divide into teams and have fun.

26. Rock-climbing

This activity requires some teamwork but can be a great experience for you both.

27. Take a painting class

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
