Dating in today’s society can be difficult.

There’s new “expectations” for women and the line for what is “acceptable” to ask or do is being pushed farther and farther and FARTHER. Well, the truth is, the things that are beginning to become accepted as “normalities” are truly the farthest thing from acceptable. (And quite honestly, can be horribly degrading.)

Therefore, it’s not exactly a surprise that girls today are beginning to feel frustrated and defeated in the dating world; so, after gathering a group of girls: here’s the top 11 things that infuriate us the most about today’s dating “customs.”

1. “Send Nudes”

NO. NO. NO. This makes women feel like you only view them as a piece of meat and nothing else; and, that is the farthest thing from acceptable. We are strong, courageous, intelligent beings and we deserve to be treated as such.

2. Catcalling

In no way, and I truly mean in NO way, is this flattering or necessary. It automatically drops you far, far, farrrrrrrrrrrrrr off the scale of “classy.”

3. No Means No

It makes no difference what it is in regards to, it’s a simple word; it’s not difficult to comprehend and you need to respect it.

4. Dick Pics

No, just no. These are never wanted or warranted. Though women are aware that guys are far too obsessed with their penises, we are not. It doesn’t impress us, it doesn’t make us “want you more”, it doesn’t make us think that you’re more masculine… it merely makes us realize that you are the lowest possible grade of man- desperate, cocky, ignorant, disrespectful and presumptuous (and that’s me being nice.)

5. Booty Calls

Relationships are supposed to be of substance, not sexual late night calls. This is simply emotional abuse and severely degrading.

6. Forcibly trying to get her phone number

Here’s the thing, it’s one thing to ask for a girl’s number; but, it’s a whole other thing to continue to pester her for it after she’s respectfully declined. Having a girl’s number is a privilege, not a given right. Once again, no means no.

7. “Are you a virgin?”

Why the hell is that any of your business? That is such a personal question and honestly, not something that should ever be discussed unless it’s relevant to the relationship. And when it is discussed, it should be in nothing less than an incredibly respectful manner.

8. Ghosting

This is so abusive and damaging to one’s self-confidence, it makes me sick. I’m unsure of what joy this could possibly bring a human being, but whatever pleasure they get out of it- it’s at the cost of another human being and that is beyond wrong.

9. Lack of Commitment

All of a sudden couples feel the need to clarify whether they’re exclusive or not, because there’s always a possibility that they’re not until it’s officially been declared. It’s unfortunate that we have begun a culture where “casual dating” is more popular or favorable to a “serious relationship.”

10. No More “Old-Fashioned Dates”

You know, the kind where the gentleman opened the door and bought flowers and planned a legitimate date rather than just a drink at a bar. The kind of dates that made women feel sincerely valued.

11. Dwindling Chivalry

I’m not saying that girls expect you to pay for literally every meal or be at our beck and call, but to act as a true gentleman has become a highly attractive quality because of the dwindling chivalry in today’s society.

Seriously guys, if you expect (or want) to ever have a real, classy, serious relationship- you need step up your game. Women are strong and capable and intelligent and brave human beings that deserve to be treated with nothing less than respect. We don’t NEED men in our lives, we choose (when and if) we want to have you and you need to remember that.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
