14 DIY Valentine's Day Gifts More Romantic Than Anything You Could Buy

Valentine's Day is whatever you make it, often literally. So if you want to change it up from a regular store-bought gift, why not try getting crafty?

Here are 14 of the most romantic DIY gifts you could give your Valentine this year.

Kisses Jar

No, I don't mean actual kisses, but you can throw either a few Hershey Kisses or slab on some lipstick, kiss some paper, and cut out your kisses. A cute way to show your valentine that you saved a few kisses for them for when you're not around.

Mirror Sticky Note Heart

If you happen to live with your valentine or you are able to sneak into their bathroom at some point on Valentine's Day, you can write a few meaningful notes that are either inside jokes, things you love about them, or just cute quotes and stick them on their mirror in the shape of a heart. It's a sweet surprise they won't be expecting when they first enter the bathroom.

Make Your Own Bouquet

Take some of your valentine's favorite candy or snacks and make them a custom bouquet. They'll know you were thinking purely of them and their likes as opposed to just getting a regular bouquet of flowers.

Cook Them A Heart Shaped Meal

Whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, go out and get some heart-shaped cookie cutters and add a romantic twist to a home-cooked meal.

Create A Scrapbook

Take some of your favorite photos together and put them all together in a sweet little scrapbook. You can make it valentines-themed if you want, but either way, it'll be a present they can enjoy any day they want.

Make Your Own Game

If you and your valentine love to play games together, how special would it be if you made your own game based on the two of you? You can take the concept from games such as "Monopoly," "Uno," or "Cards Against Humanity" and add your own fun twists to make them unique to the two of you.

Make A Date Jar

You can add popsicle sticks to an empty jar and color them based on what date you're going to be going on. For example, green sticks could mean dates that require a little more money while yellow can be special date nights at home. Whenever you or your valentine want to have a date night, you can pick a stick from the jar and be surprised for what kind of date you'll have together.

Give Them A Custom Coupon Book

Whether they're for a 30-minute back massage coupon or a coupon for them to pick what movie you both watch without any complaints, you'll be giving them a way to have a win from time to time in your everyday relationship. But don't forget to put an expiration date on certain things you don't want looming over your head forever!

Make Them A Special Valentine's Day Goody Box

Fill it with whatever you want! Theme or no theme — that's fine. Add a bunch of things you know that they'll like, from candy, cozy socks, food, and more. Have fun with it!

Paint Them A Picture

If you happen to be the artistic type, paint or draw them something you know they'd love to frame and put somewhere. Anytime they'll look at it, they'll be thinking of you.

Take Them On A Picnic

Grab a blanket, throw some of their favorite munchies into a basket, and head to the park. Don't forget to check the weather before you plan this, though!

Make Your Own Mug

Go and get a blank white mug from the dollar store, any kind of stencils you may want, and some paint pens. Decorate it however you want and then bake it in the oven for a little while. Let it cool, wash it, and you've got a customized mug made just for your valentine.

"Open When..." Letters

If you happen to be doing the long-distance thing or are about to do it soon, make some letters for them to open when they miss you. You can make one for when they're hungry and throw a gift card to their favorite restaurant in there or make one for when they miss you really bad and put lots of pictures of you both in there. It's the gift that keeps on giving. My boyfriend loved the ones I made him before he went away to school, and he's still taking his time opening them all.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt For Them

Last, but not least, if you only got your valentine a gift but you want to make it more fun somehow, send them on a little scavenger hunt throughout the house or even to places special to both of you. Their last spot should lead them to you waiting with their gift.

Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
