5 Things Guys Will Never Understand About Periods

I was talking with my boyfriend this week about periods. I had gotten mine and was laying in bed, wishing to be anywhere but there. I was curled in a ball and he asks, "Is it really that bad?" See, boys will never understand the pain and frustration that comes with being a woman. It sucks and no parts are fun. Guys just can't understand these things about periods or really being a girl in general.

1. Your face breaks out and you feel ugly.

You may not actually look bad, but you feel it. You're exhausted and you have dark circles. Your back hurts, so does your head, and in all honestly every damn part of your body hurts.

Not one part of you feels attractive and all day you feel like you need a shower because well...ew.

2. You have trouble sleeping.

Cramps, racing thoughts, or whiplash emotions they all keep you up.

You just lie there wishing for sleep because if you don't sleep then you'll end up looking worse for wear.

You'll also be more irritable.

3. Your emotions really are all over the place.

Guys always ask, "If you know your emotions are messed up during your period, then shouldn't you be able to control it?" No, but we try.

Sometimes it's unconscious, but other times we feel the emotion rising and it just comes out.

We can't stop it, even if we really wish we could stop it. And if by some miracle, we do push it down, it'll just explode later in a messier and emotional way.

We really can't help our mood swings, so shut up and just endure the storm. Or get us food...we'll be too busy eating to let our emotions out.

4. Yeah, we can create life, but every part of being a girl is painful.

Every part of womanhood is painful. Being a woman is terrible most days and tolerable other days.

Periods? Painful and emotionally torturous, which also includes back pain, headaches, blood loss, cramps, crying at nothing/everything, and exhaustion.

Sex? Painful, the first time and honestly, most of the time after.

If a guy hits a girls cervix? Done. Super painful and uncomfortable. Mood killer.

Child birth? Painful and vaginally altering. Have too much caffeine? Boob pain. I can keep going but I think ya'll get my point.

5. Cramps are the worst, they HURT.

I don't think guys really get how much pain cramps cause. It's a constant throb at best and at worst? It causes a woman to hunch over or freeze in pain.

Woman feel like an orange being peeled from the inside and there is nothing you can do but endure.

Ever bite your lip too deep and it burns and hurts every time you touch it? That's our uterus, for a week straight.

And sure, it gets better as the week continues on but the first few days...it's rough. Heating pads and beds are your best friend.

So if you are dating a lady who gets a bad period or a period at all...just love her. Let her mood swings go, go out and buy her random food cravings, and get her the heating pad, while putting on a rom com or whatever she wants and lay with her.

Just be there. That's all she wants...even if in a mood swing she says differently.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
