We are in a generation where relationships tend to end more frequently compared to the long-lasting ones of generations past.

With being said, many relationships end due to social media. You have these hot or not and tinder dating apps that make it easier for someone to cheat on their partner which is mostly due to lack of attention, affection, and communication.

Sometimes people just get "bored" of that person or relationship and look somewhere else and not even try to fight to salvage anything that is left in the relationship.

Of course, there are other reasons why relationships end but we are part of the lazy generation where people seem to think that nothing is worth fighting for.

If you are in a relationship and you like or are in love with your significant other and things are a bit distant and not the way they use to be, here is 10 helpful ways that could help you and your relationship get back on track:

1. Communicate more.

Communicating is a big deal and plays a huge role in a relationship. Without communication, what is the point of being in a relationship if you are not motivated to talk to your partner?

Talking to each other and saying how you feel about something or heck, even just talking about your day, will make a huge difference in the relationship if you try to show more interest.

2. Being truthful to one another.

That means don't lie to him or her. All that will do is lead to a fight or maybe even a breakup. Being truthful is not that hard and means so much to a person that you'd tell the truth instead of lying even though sometimes the truth may hurt them.

3. Put your phones up.

As I've said social media ruins relationships. When you are with your person, dedicate the time to them and don't be on your phone. Not only are you physically there with them, you need to be mentally there as well.

4. Be best friends.

Sometimes in life, you will need a best friend more than your boyfriend/girlfriend. So if you are best friends with the person whom you are in a relationship with, it makes life a whole lot easier for you and for them, and easier for the relationship as well.

5. Have fun together.

Having fun together keeps the sparks going and the relationship alive.

6. Support each other when the going gets tough.

Life is never going to be easy. But having someone to lean on and support you no matter what life throws at you, is the most amazing feeling. School is tough, finding your first career job is rough, wedding planning is a mess, losing someone dear is hard, but having them by your side through it all, you couldn't ask for anything more. Their support and the support you give back is a BIG HELPFUL FACTOR in having a long-lasting relationship.

7. Love each other's flaws.

Sure you both have flaws that annoy you, but love them because it is what makes us a part of who we are. Everyone is different and everyone annoys differently but instead of being mad at them for their flaws, love them.

8. Don't hold grudges.

Holding grudges is wasting precious time. Ever heard of forgiving and forgetting?

9. Stay loyal.

No matter what happens, if you want to be with this person YOU HAVE TO STAY LOYAL. Even if you're tempted to cheat or message someone. You have to think, "would I want them to do this to me? Would I be okay if they cheated on me?" If your answer is no, then stay loyal. Plain and simple. It is honestly not that hard.

10. Listen to each other.

Just listen, if they need to vent to you, let them vent. If they need to give you advice that you don't want to hear, hear it anyways. I promise they will listen to you if you do the same for them as well.

Relationships are hard and it takes time and a lot of effort to make it work. It takes dedication to make it last longer or even for a life time. No one ever said it is going to be easy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
