I'm Single And I Don't Care

I'm Single And I Don't Care

When going back home, I probably spend hours upon hours of my time attempting to convince the aunts and uncles of the family that I am single.

Yes, I am single.

No, I am not interested.

Yes, I still like boys.

No, I don't want a boyfriend.

It's honestly exhausting having to explain myself over and over again why I prefer the single life, but I'm going to try to put it in lamest terms to avoid any more confusion. So here's to all the females out there who don't want a man. Here's to all the women who are perfectly being single this year.

I have been single for a consecutive 19 years. Yes, I'm aware that's all 19 years of my life. I haven't been some kind of prude who's never spoken to a guy or even gotten close to getting in a relationship. I've just never had the exclusive title of being someone's girlfriend. It doesn't bother as much as some would like to think. I have a lot of reasons for not chasing down a relationship.

For one, I've a full-time schedule with college, work, and my social life. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but I really have never been all that good at multitasking. When you get into a relationship, you make someone an obligation, meaning another addition to your schedule. Relationships take effort. No matter the attraction between two individuals, making a relationship work is not as simple as it looks in the movies. It's is not all sunsets, smiles, and walks on the beach. A relationship is filled with laughs, arguments, secrets, and love. It takes works, and I do not want to be the person in the relationship who has too much going on that I don't even put forth any effort. I would hate to put someone through that.

Another reason why I am not interested in a relationship is I legitimately cannot find that one person that I want to be in a relationship with. I have been called picky, but I'd like to think that I don't want to be in a relationship with the first guy who shows interest in me. So what if I want him to be funny, loyal, and on the same level for our future? So what if I want my family to approve before I start dating a guy? So what if I want my guy to be all about me like I would be about him? I am here to tell you, don't let people try to tell you that you're being too picky. A relationship is something serious, so you have every right to be picky.

The most important reasoning as to why I am single is because I like being single. I am only 19. I'm young, and I still have loads of time ahead of me. Why should I spend every waking moment looking for a man? I have a career in my future, and I am happy. I am not saying that I never want a relationship, but I am a firm believer in the mentality that anything that is meant to be will be. There is no point in me searching for the right guy when I believe that he will come to me when I'm ready for him. I'm not a hermit crab; I meet new people every day, but there is no point in me searching for a relationship when I'm doing fine by myself.

My point is, it's not a crime to be single. It's perfectly fine to be single, especially if you are comfortable with being single. Don't let someone try to tell you different.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
