I Would Know That High School Is Not Where Love Goes To Die, Because I Belong to the 2%

There is something about high school romance, that is constantly doubted. A common misconception that the teenage mind is incapable of knowing what it wants.

Yet mainstream media and entertainment glorifies the idea of "high school sweethearts." So what is the millennial teen meant to pursue? Popular choices include "having a thing," which lasts however long it takes to run through the rumor mill. Also the "the unofficial hookup" better known as "the classy booty call," and finally the "official couple," which rarely surpasses a few months.

High School is where love goes to die, at least that's what we are meant to believe. Except there are the few phenomena, couples who make it past the one year mark. I happen to be a prime example… except we are pushing the four-year mark.

What I've learned through my relationship is that love comes through connection, rather than age. The only thing that truly matters is meeting someone you genuinely connect with. I was lucky enough to meet my "sweetheart" two weeks into freshman year. Of course, at that point, neither of us knew the bond we would soon form.

Through our commitment to one another throughout these four years, we have shocked and impressed many.

As the legitimacy of our relationship grew, our peers often asked, how we were not tired of one another or, "how do you still have things to talk about?" and especially, "how do you handle arguments?" My response was simple, "he is my best friend," there wasn't anything we couldn't manage together.

Maintaining a partnership requires trust, respect, and maturity. Loving someone means supporting, accepting and celebrating them for who they are, and the role they play in your life. But hey, if a "thing" is all your searching for, go crazy. Have fun! No one is judging you.

To be frank, even the Huffington Post states that only 2% of all high school relationships last, so you wouldn't be wrong to doubt their validity. I am just here to say that I belong in that 2%, so don't be so quick to discredit the young love that is out there.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
