My Boyfriend Is Not Thomas Rhett, He's Better

He is no Thomas Rhett, but that’s not what I need to be happy. And that’s not what I want to make me happy.

Any country girl or hopeless romantic knows of the heart gushing love story of Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins.

They dated briefly when they were younger, almost married other people, but before the wedding, Lauren’s father called Rhett and said, “I will tell her how you feel if you don’t.” From there, their love story bloomed and they got engaged six months after dating. Hearing these love stories, with side stories of Thomas Rhett renting out a movie theater for his wife with Harry Potter movies, and their journey on adopting their daughter Willa while later finding out they were pregnant, will make anyone's heart grow twice its size.

We see all these people posting on social media these stories and saying “I wish my boyfriend was like this!”

Well, that’s the thing.

We see Disney movies, and Thomas Rhett’s love story and people don’t realize fairytales don’t come “every dynasty." They don’t just fall at your feet. As nice as that sounds, I wouldn’t trade my prince that I’ve found.

No, my boyfriend doesn’t rent me out a movie theater for the hell of it.

But I’ve also made it clear that I don’t need that to be happy.

Walmart Cheesecake, Little Ceaser's pizza & Crazy Bread, and “The 100” on Netflix? Deal.

My boyfriend isn’t gone on tour throughout the year. The most I have to worry about is how late he is going to be so I know when to start cooking dinner.

My boyfriend doesn’t ride in limos or tour buses. But he does ride on his R1 or his stunt bike and always takes me with him when I want to go. Traveling all the time on a crowded bus or riding on the streets going super fast with your man? I can promise you which one is more fun.

We don't go out to fancy parties or events, but we do go on little dates downtown or a night out with everyone and have fun, even if we are doing our own thing.

We don't have the adorable adopted/birthed children, but we do a pitbull/lab fur baby that we wouldn't trade for the world, as annoying as he is.

If we didn’t see or hear about these “perfect romance” stories, we wouldn’t have hope that one day it’s going to come to us. No love story is the same, but every love story is beautiful. It is your choice of which one is your favorite.

He is no Thomas Rhett, but that’s not what I need to be happy. And that’s not what I want to make me happy.

Sure, it’s nice to read about, but we read and dream about fantasies all the time. I’m living in my own right now.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
