I'm Open, But Hesitant About Dating Outside My Race

You can figure it out, just find someone to do it with.

The things that run through my mind, when it comes to dating outside my race

Cultural Tension

I fear that our cultures will clash at times that matter the most. You never want to feel judged or not understood in a relationship. And that goes both ways, in music, food, ideals, perspectives. I typically can compromise, and agree to disagree. I would love to find someone who believes that we can bring and embrace all aspects of our different cultures.

Initiating

I thought college would be the time I could talk to someone outside of my race, to not limit myself because to me, you love who you love. But it's not easy, I ask myself “how do you go about it?”. Typically where I am from dating is more forward, either the guy comes on to you and communicates that he likes you or his friend connects you. But approaching someone's outside of my culture is awkward for me and I become insecure, Am I too forward? Bold? Also the biggest fear of being rejected. The "what if he does not like black girls". How do you find a person who is woke or open-minded to you and your culture?

Family

I am jumping ahead, but family. I know my family would not have an issue with it, but it would possibly be awkward during the first meeting. I would never want family to come between me and my significant other. His family does not have to accept me, as long as he does, I can be happy. I don't have to be the wife/girlfriend that has to try to unite us. I will try, but if there is nothing I can do to change their minds, so be it. As long as we can be cordial then I am fine. And as long as there is not blatant disrespect there, we can co-exist.

Views

To some extent, I can tolerate different views. Coming to college has introduced me to a wide range of people. I feel that you can have views on things, but present them respectfully. For example, a Trump supporter; taking my emotions out of it, you vote for a President that you feel stands for your values or protect them. Personally, for me, Trump does not do that. But who am I to speak for others? I could not deal with Trump bigotry, but if you were not targeted why would you necessarily hold it against him? As views as in religion, children, social issues etc, you have to find someone who balances you.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
