6 Reasons You Should Break Up With Your Significant Other Before College

Sorry if this is an unpopular opinion, so I'll keep it short and sweet.

If you are a high school senior like me, then college is approaching, which means new experiences and ultimately new people. I was talking to some of my good friends about this topic and they mentioned that they couldn't find any articles about this side of the subject, so here you go.

You will meet new people

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but in college you meet people from different states — maybe even different countries — that you would have never met anywhere else. It'll be exciting and you may even catch feelings for these newbies in your life, so why would you want someone that you obviously care about to be put in the position of feeling like they're holding you back?

Regret

In college, there might possibly be times when you are in a different mindset, therefore you may make some questionable decisions. These decisions, however, may not be the smartest when you wake up the next day and realize you might have some explaining to do. If you do end up breaking up with your SO, then you will not even have to worry the slightest about this, so just do it.

It might make your relationship stronger down the line

If you truly are meant to be with this person in your life for the rest of your life, it may be good for your relationship to have this time apart and then come back to one another. If you both are destined to be soulmates then a break will not keep you from that.

Self-love is important during this time, too

I get that you may want love from another, but this time is crucial for self-love. You really do need to be a little self-centered now because of the big transition into college and because this is a time where mental health issues can occur. Focus on yourself more; it's okay to be a bit selfish.

Friends!

One thing that you won't have at college is your group of besties, which means that you need to spend time with your people before you go. Who knows when the next time you will see them is, probably Thanksgiving or Christmas, so send some extra love their way and put more effort into your friendships; you all need it.

So many things to do before packing up and going

This is a busy time and the summer will fly by, and you probably need to get a lot of things accomplished. A relationship may hinder your productivity or get in the way of doing things on time. This won't be good for either of you because you will definitely be stressed, so do everything you need to get done and don't let a SO take away from that.

All in all, I know that you may still want to be with your SO after reading this, so I wish you the best, but hopefully, you got something from this article. This is a very busy time and you should really focus on yourself and the reasons mentioned. I hope you have an amazing summer and that you go into college strong.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
