Let's face it. Rejection, no matter who it comes from, sucks.
Honestly, I could get rejected by someone that I absolutely cannot stand, and it would hit me personally.
Girls wonder why their friend goes back to the same piece-of-dirt boyfriend every other month, and here's why. It's not the fact that they genuinely care for that person. Maybe they do. But the more overarching fact of the matter is that your friend can't stand the rejection part of it all, and when there's an opportunity to get back into a relationship, they do it to erase the part where they got rejected.
Rejection, in any form, hurts more than anything.
Whether it comes from your family, your friends, or a significant other, it will still sting just as bad every time. It sucks to get rejected by a person that you didn't even seek validation from in the first place. Sometimes, our emotions can't handle the fact that we've been rejected. Though it is really easy to say "suck it up and keep moving, it'll only make you stronger", putting that into play is almost impossible when you've been rejected by someone. All you can think is "should I have been better?" or "why wasn't I good enough for that person?".
I think the thing that we all need to come to terms with, including myself, is that rejection is a part of life.
It will make you stronger. But that doesn't mean you have to pick up yourself immediately and charge through life like it never happened. Sometimes, you have to let yourself feel the pain to get through it. It will never be a learning experience if you don't let yourself feel the pain for a little while.
But yes, eventually you need to get up and get moving. You need to understand that you are worth it, but some people are not made for each other and that is okay. I know it's sometimes easy to look at someone and wonder how they handle rejection so well, but just understand that no one really handles rejection well.
Some people are just better at hiding it.
Rejection is a part of life that we cannot get around. That's why I always laugh to myself a little bit when people say they are afraid to jump back into life because they fear rejection. Yes, rejection is scary, but it is also inevitable. Rejection should always be a learning experience.
You may always flinch in pain a little bit when you think of the times you were rejected, but take a step back for a second and ask yourself how you grew from that experience. Did you become a stronger person because of it?
I can guarantee that you did, whether you realize it or not. Sometimes, rejection is the thing we need to rise a little stronger.
