A Real Relationship Just Isn't With Your S.O., It's With Their Family, Too

When you're in a relationship with someone it is not just you and them against the world; it's also you, them, and their family against the world as well.

When I was in a relationship my favorite part wasn't just the dates or being able to spend time with my boyfriend, but it was being able to spend time with my boyfriend and his family.

I have always been a family person so whenever I was invited to family functions I was always excited, whatever the event was. Being in a relationship is all fun and games but when you get closer with their family; it makes you feel all warm inside like a little girl drinking hot chocolate on a cold winters night.

When you are dating someone it's not just about you and your significant other; but also about their family. Family has always been a big thing for me and I don't usually invite the guy I am dating home. Yeah, he will come to pick me up, and ring my doorbell; but I never invited them over unless he was someone I saw potential and saw a serious future with. A relationship with your significant other's family is just as important as a relationship with your significant other. You truly get to see how your significant other acts around their family but also you get to see how they are if you were to be part of the family one day.

Families make or break a relationship. If your significant other's family does not like you, there is a slight chance that your relationship is doomed at the beginning. Now, when I say that you have a relationship with your S.O. family, as well I don't mean that you go on one on one dinner dates with them, but you build that bond with them to where during the holidays they buy you presents or they will text you and invite you to a family movie. You are a part of their life just as you are a part of your S.O. life. and sometimes, the family will even invite you over when your S.O. is not home just because they can.

When you are with someone and you meet the family; all I can say is let the family traditions begin! The moment you are invited over for dinner is the moment you begin a relationship with the family. You get to be part of an intimate dinner with the family, get to know everyone better, and the family even gets a chance to get to know you a little better as well. A relationship with the family is one of the most important things in your relationship but also; it's one of the things you want to cherish as well.

Having a relationship with their family is such a beautiful thing. You not only have your family to cherish but your S.O. family as well. And that is why whenever a relationship ends; the hardest part sometimes is not the relationship ending, but also your relationship with the family. Cherish each moment you have not just with your S.O. but also their family because you never know what will happen the next day but also because every day is such a beautiful treasure and mystery.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
