After months of planning, stressing, and probably crying, the wedding day is finally here! A couple weeks ago, I got married and it was the best day of my life. I married my best friend and we have been loving married life together. As the dust settled, I reflected on the magical day and found seven pieces of advice that I would give to future brides about the special day.
1. Enjoy the day
This was a piece of advice that I received from a friend who got married two weeks before I did. There were times that I wanted to help set something up or tell someone what to do, but instead I relaxed and just enjoyed the day.
2. Delegate
Going along with enjoying the day, I delegated a lot of responsibilities to other people so I was able to talk to everyone. Several people had a specific job which they were responsible for, and I knew that I needed to worry about nothing.
3. Eat the food
This is another piece of advice that I received before the wedding, and it is so true. Everyone wants to come talk to the new couple and before we knew it, the night was almost over and we barely ate anything. Make sure you enjoy the food that you have planned to have at your wedding/reception. It's okay to take a second to eat. I'm sure your guests will understand. Also, make sure you're drinking water. People kept coming up to us at our reception with glasses of water, and I am so grateful for that!
4. Things will go wrong, but don't let it ruin your day
Unfortunately, this is so true. Whether it be your flowers not looking right or a groomsman doesn't show up. On my day, the zipper on my dress broke that morning. I could've freaked out and gone completely bridezilla, but I fortunately had a white dress that worked. I slipped on that dress, took a deep breath, and kept going. Yeah, I'm upset that I couldn't wear my dress in my wedding pictures (I was sewn into the dress later that night for the reception, but that's another story), but in the end, I still got married and everything was okay!
5. Remember the love
Your wedding day is the busiest day of your life. There were times when I would get overwhelmed, but I would look at my cute husband, remember we were married, and would be so happy! Your wedding day is all about the love shared between the couple. Remembering the purpose of the day will help relax you.
6. Have comfortable shoes
I'm not a huge heel person anyways (I'm really clumsy), but I couldn't imagine wearing heels on my wedding day. You stand for hours upon hours, especially during pictures. Having comfortable shoes made life a lot easier.
7. Again... enjoy the day
At the end of the day, the little details don't really matter. Making memories with my new husband that I will remember forever is so much more important than if the centerpieces are absolutely perfect. My wedding day was the best day of my life, and I am so grateful that I was able to relax and enjoy the day. This was made possible through all of my amazing family and friends (thanks guys!!).
