Ah, sweet summertime. The time of the year where the sun shines longer, the fruit tastes sweeter and any day is a good day for the beach. Patiently waiting all winter and spring for its arrival, we welcome the warmth of summer with pure joy.
And just as summer starts to appear, so do the wedding invitations... Future brides and grooms have anxiously waited all year for their moment to walk down the aisle and begin the rest of their married lives. And we the singles out there have a timeline to either go stag or swipe through tinder for a one night date.
I cannot tell you how many people have already conveyed their fears to me of potentially having to attend a wedding as one of the "only" singles present this summer. How awkward it will be to find another comrade to brave the rest of the night with as if weddings are less about celebration and more about humiliation...
In all honesty, I can relate. RSVPing for only yourself does feel pretty lame, even if the bride and groom are super stoked to only have to buy one plate instead of two, but I would much rather go alone than go with someone I couldn't stand.
I admit that it is pretty lame that I and many other singles haven't found "the one" yet by the time invitations start flowing in, but I can't help but find reasons to enjoy this lull of singlehood.
1. It's SO much cheaper
Instead of having to book a hotel room, I can crash on my friend's couch or share the bed with her and save hella $$
2. Single = ready to mingle
You know it's true! Get a little liquid luck in your system and you'll be confident to dance the night away with the other hot singles in the corner
3. No pressure to settle down
Sure, I am so incredibly thankful that my friends have found the one their heart loves above all others, but without an S.O. I don't have to worry that they'll get any proposal ideas any time soon...
4. You. Look. Hot.
You know it's true, being in a relationship means gaining extra pounds from all the happiness and restaurant outings. Without a lover, you won't have any distractions to look your absolute best this summer
5. Friends are WAY better wedding dates
In the countless weddings I've attended in the past, none of them have even begun to compare to going with my besties. They make me laugh 10x harder than any date ever could and they always have my back
6. So. Many. Drinks.
Open bar? Count me in! Without a date, no one can judge you for grabbing that extra drink or for getting a little crazy at the end of the night. Just make sure you don't spill anything on the bride...
7. It's worth the wait
Sure, this option may sound like a downer, but honestly, I'd rather wait 10 years for Mr. Right than settle down too quickly with Mr. Wrong...
8. You can eat as much as you want
Seriously, without anyone to impress, you can definitely take an extra scoop of Mac'n'cheese or that extra slice of cake and no one will judge. Calories can't be real if no one saw that amiright?!
9. You might meet your future lover
Yes, I barfed writing that too, but hey! Who knows, maybe your S.O. is one of the other singles in the room. Wouldn't THAT be a story to tell the kids...
10. You only get invited by people who actually know you
Instead of having to awkwardly attend a wedding where you know absolutely no one, at least you know the bride and groom!
So celebrate on my fellow single friends, and don't let the romance of other people get you down! After all, being single this season definitely sounds like a lot more fun.
