7 Emergency TopicsĀ For Thanksgiving To Avoid Discussing Your Love Life When It's Deader Than The Turkey

If you're looking for an escape from the constant "Are you dating anyone?," "Why are you still single?," or even "Will you be getting engaged soon?" questions, I've got your back. Here are 7 emergency conversation topics to discuss if you're trying to keep your love life (or lack there of) away from your Thanksgiving table.

College (or school in general if you're not in college yet)

This one's always good to talk about because odds are you never get to tell the family you see at Thanksgiving all your new stories. Also, you can mention all the new friends you made which should distract from the daunting question of whether you met your husband/wife yet.

Christmas

Around Thanksgiving most of my family asks what I want for Christmas so let this be a topic to relieve the love life talk.

Pets

Animals are always a good distraction in any conversation, so if you have pets or your family has pets just go on about them.

Plans for winter break

Since college has such a long winter break most college kids have plans on what to do for that time period. It's OK if you don't but if there are plans, even in the works, mention them to get out of any unwanted conversation.

A new job or internship if you recently got one

It can be super exciting to have a position in the future, so you shouldn't keep quiet about this new commitment in your life.

Things you're involved in

Being involved is something that your family will love to hear about it, don't be shy! Keep rattling on about everything you do and they will totally forget about a possible significant other in your life.

Family drama

If all else fails, go along with the family drama that is going on and that should definitely help distract.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
