Dating A Professional Baseball Player Can Have Its Rain Delays, But It's Always A Homerun
Madison Metzger

I have been dating my boyfriend for seven years since freshman year of high school. I was with him through high school baseball, travel ball, and then when he went a played division one baseball in college, and seven years later here we are again in professional baseball, which is one of the craziest, most amazing experiences so far.

From the outside looking in, our lives seem exciting, adventurous, and easy but in reality, there are a lot of ups and downs. There is so much that goes into being and dating a baseball player that people don't think about.

It hasn't always been the easiest, but it is definitely an adventure and who doesn't love a little adventure in their life.

Dating a baseball player can be stressful at times when you don't get to see each other except for every couple of months, when he's 2,000 miles away and there is a three hour time difference, and having different schedules, but the time that you do get to spend with one another is worth it in the end. Not everyone is prepared for the many challenges that are thrown their way during the season.

You have to pack and move whenever they tell you to, you're basically picking up your life and moving to a new state for a few months or so until you have to move again. You never know if they go to baseball that day and get cut, or if they are going to get moved up a level, or even get traded to a different team.

Baseball is all about taking it day by day and hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

You root for them no matter what and when they set a goal and accomplish if you are just as excited as they are and when things get hard you're sad with them as well because you are both going through it together. When they have a game, you're just as nervous and stressed as they are and I swear it has taken years off of my life sitting at home or in the stands watching him play. My boyfriend's mom and I always joke how there is a special place in heaven for baseball girlfriends and moms because of all the stress we go through with our guys. My life is baseball.

I was not prepared for the challenges, but also the accomplishments that came with this "lifestyle." My boyfriend and I have been doing the whole long-distance relationship since freshman year of college, so I thought I was prepared and knew what to expect in professional baseball, but I was completely wrong. This life is completely different then what you would ever expect it to be. The highs are high and the lows are low, but being on this adventure with the man I love is worth it, watching them chase their dreams that they have had set since they were in little league is worth it. It'll be even more worth it one day when he makes it the majors, knock on wood.

I am so proud of everything my boyfriend has accomplished so far and I am looking forward to more adventures and everything else that comes along with it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
