It's finally time for the most controversial time of the year: Valentine's Day

You either love everything it stands for or everything about it. Yet, I think we can all agree that the one thing we all HATE about Valentine's Day is the process of shopping for a boyfriend.

It seems like no matter how much you think you nailed it, they always end up faking a smile and letting it collect dust on his dresser. If you're not this girlfriend and wow him every time, great, fantastic, here I am envying you with every bone in my body.

But if you're not, I took some advice from some experts on what to not get and what to actually get.

Subject: Connor
Age: 22
Occupation: student / boyfriend / boy
Interests: Bikes, flannels, the outdoors, dinosaurs, and annoying me

Subject: Jake
Age: 21
Occupation: Student / Boy / Tinder Expert
Interests: Bikes, Games of Thrones, Mike Stud, and Local bars

1. YES: His favorite six-pack

Connor: If you handed this I immediately think "HOLY S*&% you get me", it's absolutely something you can't go wrong with.

Jake: If I was handed this, I would be like "wow, this girl really knows me". I think it shows you get us and you know what you're doing.

NOT: Assorted Chocolate

Connor: Chocolate hurts my teeth, I know a lot of guys don't like chocolate so just steer clear of it. It's more of a girl topic

Jake: No, they're fattening. #GAINS

2. YES: A Yeti

Connor: I could use it literally every day and a lot of people probably have this on their lists. Guys like practicality.

Jake: I would love to get a yeti, I would think about her every time I had my coffee.

NOT: A card

Connor: I hate cards, I'm sorry. They take up space, I'm never going to use it again. No cards.

Jake: I don't want a card, they're great fire starters and that's about it.

3. YES: Restaurant gift card

Connor: It's like you paying for the date, no guy can say no to that. Get it to your favorite place to go together.

Jake: Everyone likes food, great gift. Now I'm hungry.

NO: Pets

Connor: Just don't do it, it's just another chore to do every day.

Jake: I can't afford a pet, I'm a college student.

4. YES: Great Clips gift card

Connor: Yes, absolutely yes. Do you know how amazing this would be?

Jake: I always need a haircut, this would work.

NO: A watch

Connor: It's too expensive, I probably wouldn't get you something that nice so I would feel bad

Jake: I like the thought but I see this as a Christmas or Birthday present, nice but too much for Valentine's Day

5. Body Lotions/ shower gel/ Cologne

Connor: I would finally stop stealing my roommates' stuff, and smell good.

Jake: I'd prefer just cologne because I buy my own soup. Don't show up with a box of Irish Spring with a bow on it, but cologne is good.

NO: Jewelry

Connor: Please don't get me a ring, or anything like that. Just don't.

Jake: Ew.

6. YES: Basket of snacks

Connor: Aw get me a big bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos. It's a chill gift I know I'm going to use.

Jake: Hell yeah, I love snacks. Get me all my favorite snacks.

NO: A gift

Jake: Honestly, I would just rather get you something. I don't need anything and you guys appreciate it more.

Connor: I really wouldn't care if you got me something, the day is about us not we get each other.

Connor: also please don't get me tide pods...I really don't want that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
