Self-care isn't always about bubble baths and face masks, sometimes it's about doing your work and eating something.

Everyone has bad days, it's impossible not to. However, there are things you can do help make those bad days a little less bad.

I have these little self-love things I do when I'm feeling low. It's important to remember that self-love isn't always about bubble baths and face masks. Self-love is also about the nitty-gritty of self-love. The side people tend to forget about when someone mentions self-love.

1. Showering

Baths are great and all but sometimes a shower is the what you need. Showering first thing in the morning when you don't feel like doing anything and having a bad day is the first step you need. It'll help get you out of bed and it'll give you something to do that isn't just laying in bed.

2. Drink water

Stay hydrated. Nothing is worse than being in a funk or a depressive episode while being dehydrated. Water helps your body in more ways than you think. Remind yourself to drink at least one cup of water every hour.

3. Don't be hard on yourself

Like I've said, everyone has bad days, don't let it get you even further down. Remember, bad days are not bad lives. Remind yourself of the reasons why you love yourself and why you are happy you're alive.

4. Eat something

I don't mean junk food. I mean really eat something, a meal. Don't snack or if you do snack have a healthy snack. I know we all love to reach for our favorite comfort food but sometimes having something healthy will help wake your body up.

5. Clean up the area around you

Clutter makes me more anxious when I'm in a low mood. I've always found cleaning up the area around you will help ease your mind a little bit more when you have a clean area around you.

6. Exercise

Stretch, go for a run, do yoga. Get your body moving because exercise is good for you and it'll make you feel better in the long run.

7. Do your work

I know work is the last thing I want to do when I'm low but sometimes not doing any of it and knowing it's there for me to do will only add to my mood. Do your work in chunks, don't try and take on too much of it at once.

8. Take breaks

Just like doing your work is important so is taking breaks. Don't overwork yourself, take breaks from your work so you don't overwhelm yourself.

9. Talk to someone

Alone time is great but too much alone time can be bad. Reach out to someone and talk to them. It doesn't have to be about how're your feeling. As long as you know you have someone who will be there for you when you're in a mood.

10. Change your sheets

I always feel a little better after changing the sheets on my bed. Maybe it's because it's a metaphor for me about changing my mood and maybe it's because I love knowing that I'll be sleeping on fresh sheets that night.

And now for some lovely things to do when it comes to self-love:

11. Take a nap

A short nap, like 30 minutes, not three-hour naps.

12. Have some tea

Tea is lovely and always makes me feel better when I drink it.

13. Listen to your favorite song

Music can really help boost your mood, put on your favorite feel-good song and jam out.

14. Read a book

Curl up in your bed or your favorite reading nook with a book and just get lost in another world for a little while.

15. Take a bath

Make your bath as hot as you'd like and load it up with all the oils and bath bombs in the world that you like. Relax.

16. Face maks

17. Get a milkshake

I personally have seen milkshakes get people out of ruts before. It just cheers them up for some reason.

18. Eat chocolate

Nothing makes me feel better than eating some chocolate when I'm sad.

19. Light your favorite candle

Scents really do help boost moods. Lighting a candle that helps your relax will make you feel better, even if just for a little while.

20. Retail therapy

Buy yourself something nice. That's it, go out and shop.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
