We just had Thanksgiving Break, and Winter Break is just starting. These breaks are a time to go home, relax, and get some long overdue beauty rest (because let’s be honest, you definitely need it at this point). A time to spend with bickering family members and catch up with your friends from high school that you probably haven’t seen since graduation. And, apparently, it is a time to get messages from your ex-boyfriend.

You didn’t see it coming. You hadn’t talked to him in a year. You had just gotten over the epic mess that was your relationship. You unfriended him on Snapchat, unfollowed him on Instagram and Twitter, and unfriended him on Facebook. You’d even deleted the number, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t recognize it when it pops up in your messages with the words “Hey, how’ve you been?”

He’s thinking about me, you think and smirk to yourself while simultaneously wondering, Why is he thinking about me? A lot of emotions come over you in the next 30 seconds – shock, horror, awe, disgust, delight. And here they all are.

1. When he initially texts you.

IT'S BEEN A YEAR, you scream internally to yourself. WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? You want to let him know how you're still mad, or hurt, or over it, and how even though you're secretly happy he's texting you, you still don't really want him to be texting you.

2. When he tells you he misses you.

Oh, so that must be why he's talking to you. But he should have started missing you a long time ago. You just want to take a hammer to your phone, even though you know it isn't the phone's fault, it's his for texting you in the first place.

3. When he starts telling you about how well he's been doing.

Okay, so we all do this. There's nothing worse than hearing that your ex is doing better than you or "winning the breakup". So we all lie a whole lot little and say we've been doing so much a little better than we actually are, just to make the other person feel worse. Hopefully, that's what he's doing, because if he really is doing as well as he's saying, he's totally winning this breakup.

4. When your parents ask you who you're texting.

Why are they so nosy? How do they always know when you're talking to someone you definitely shouldn't be talking to? Why do we get so angry when they ask us who we're talking to? So many questions, and I have no answers. But we all give our parents this look when they ask and we can't really tell them.

5. When he tries to add you back on Snapchat.

You deleted him so you wouldn't have to see that he's out at the bars every night while you sit at home and feed your cat. And now he's trying to add you back? No, thank you.

6. When you've just got to show your friends the messages he's been sending you.

So we hide the messages from our parents but immediately call our best friends to come over or send screenshots in the group chat. They've just got to be a part of the drama that has just reared its glorious ugly head.

7. When he asks if you want to hang out while you're both back home.

No, just no. That's all I can say.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
