Our Generation Swiped Left On Monogamy

We think if we just stick to one person and accept their flaws, we're settling.

Just now my phone is blowing up with texts from a friend.

We were on her phone the other day scrolling through a dating app when we saw a familiar face. It was the boyfriend of another friend of mine. We decided to swipe right to see if he was still active on it or not.

Sure enough, she was texting me that they matched. He had swiped right on her, ensuring us that he was still an active participant in dating apps.

And I'm not shocked at all.

Dating is a challenge in this generation because of social media, so I'm not surprised it's not working for him either. The issue is that there's always something shinier and prettier around us, and since we grew up hearing how special we were, we believe we deserve the best.

We think if we just stick to one person and accept their flaws, we're settling. Or we think that one person is great and all but why choose one when there are so many options?

As long as dating apps keep growing and our dependency on them as well, we will always keep searching. Because what if the next person you swipe on is the one? What if your perfect partner is just three swipes away? Or even 100 swipes away?

We won't know unless we keep swiping.

So, this leaves us in a predicament. We can continue swiping, picking out the flaws in each new swipe. Or we can choose monogamy, be content for awhile, but then notice things we don't like and start looking around.

Because what if we're missing out on "the one" by being with this one.

I don't have a solution for this growing plight, just more of a statement. If we keep treating each other as "swipes" instead of humans, monogamy will only continue to deteriorate.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
