We all have someone we wish we could date. Whether it be a celebrity, musician, someone who’s in your class, a random cute face you remember, etc. We all have made up conversations and scenarios revolved around dating this person. They may have even seeped into your dreams, not on purpose, of course. After all, you can’t really control your dreams.

But then you see that they got a boyfriend or girlfriend, and you become ridiculously sad about it. Why is it this hard to get over someone you never dated? It’s even worse if you’ve never even spoken to this person. Then we wonder, what could have been? And it’s just a continuous cycle of this infatuation with an idea of a person.

So, the question remains, how do get over someone you never dated?

1. Cry... you’re basically going through a break-up

2. Eat your feelings in ice cream and junk food

3. Imagine that they were jerks just to make yourself feel better

4. Try not to think about their adorable puppy

5. Delete the pictures you creepily screenshotted off their social media

6. Tell yourself there are more fish in the sea

7. Fill your head with new information to forget things you should not know about this person

8. Retweet ominous tweets about breakups and moving on

9. Remind yourself that they’re just a regular person you never knew

10. Take a spontaneous road trip to take your mind off of it

11. Listen to pump up songs

12. Watch light-hearted movies

13. Get a haircut or new clothes

14. Go to a party and dance the night away

15. Surround yourself with supportive people

16. Take up a new hobby

17. Start running or working out

18. Binge-watch your favorite TV show

19. Frequently nap throughout the day

20. Really delve into your job/classes

21. Clear your search histories on social media, you don’t need the reminder

22. Change up your routine to get a new perspective

23. Start the cycle over again and find a new person to lay your infatuation upon

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from.
