Choosing to move on to something new is one of the scariest things that you can decide to do, especially when you don't know what awaits you in the future. However, the truth is, you're putting so much effort into a guy who doesn't notice or appreciate it. Wouldn't you consider that to be scarier? I understand how hard it can be, believe me, I do. There just comes a point where enough is enough.
Whether you've been in this guy's life for years or only for a couple of months, it is still time wasted; time that could've been spent elsewhere, on things that can better you as a person. Maybe he's able to make you feel special sometimes, but every person deserves someone that can give their all 100 percent of the time. Don't waste any more of your energy. You should cut him off, and here's why.
When you're putting all of your focus and energy on him, you save none for yourself.
It's tough being a girl because naturally, we want to put all of our energy and love into the person that we think deserves it the most. We constantly lay awake and wonder when he will text or call back, or if he will even try to talk to you at all. We dress up to go out with our friends and wear the outfit we think will get his attention the most. We do all of these things, while he goes on completely oblivious to any of it. And for what? For that one night where he finally wants to see you? That one night where he finally needs attention from somebody? We could be spending our time focusing on ourselves, instead. Thinking about our futures, our plans, our friends, our academics. Imagine if all of your energy was going towards something that could actually prosper and be good for you. Your achievements would be endless.
He's effecting your happiness.
You cannot let a man define who you are going to be as a person. Men (not all, but the majority at this age) don't know what they want. This is completely understandable, given that at this point in our lives, no one really knows what they want. It becomes wrong when they start to make you feel like you're the problem. Since they want to manipulate you into feeling that way, they will try to control how others see you as well. This can be really hard to endure, especially when you're in college and already have enough going on in your school and social life. That extra, self-loathing feeling is the very last thing you need on your plate. By telling him goodbye, you could be opening up a whole new world of self-love and encouragement that can put you on a whole new path to success.
While wasting your energy on him, you're depriving someone else of your time.
Whenever you are sticking around for a boy who doesn't care about you, you're holding yourself back from embracing a bright and happy future with someone else. Until you move on completely and cut all ties, you will not be able to move forward toward someone better that treats you the way that you deserve to be treated. If you continue going back to the same person, you will always receive the same results. Finding someone else that's ready for the same things that you are is something that you can't deprive yourself of. It could be one of the best things to ever happen to you.
Leaving is hard to do when you love somebody, but you have to choose to love yourself more. Move on with your life and make something of yourself. They will know what they missed out on the second that they realize you're really gone. Don't make your life about him. Make your life about you.
